Veterans Parade returns to downtown Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Veterans received recognition in Bowling Green Saturday with a parade and flag-raising.
The downtown streets filled with floats, and the event included Junior ROTC members, bands and essay readings on the topic of what America means to me.
Kenneth Cone, who served as the grand marshal of the parade, said, “Carry the memory of these men and women that are surrounding us right now. So many paid such an incredibly high price and we should forever remember that our freedom was not free. I just want to say thank you to every retired or still fighting veteran who fought for our country, for every child, adult and elder. So once again, thank you for everything. Anything that you see here is because of them. He was just a kid when he went in and and came out a man. Seen things that no one else would understand. He’s a veteran. I am able to play sports, go to school and grow up to be anything I want to be. I know I get to be me because of those who have fought for these rights for me to have and for your freedoms. We just don’t remember how great we have it in this country. An event like this gives everyone a chance to be reminded of that, veterans who served, the communities we represent, and the citizens in this country.”
Cone is a veteran of the United States Air Force and an active member of the American Legion Post 23.
