BARREN COUNTY, Ky.- The Barren County Clerk’s Office shared how it will be implementing an upcoming statewide program for people who plan on trading or selling their cars.

The program will allow Kentucky drivers to keep their license plates and re-issue them on a new car.

According to the county clerk’s office, starting in 2024, people who sell or trade in their cars should take their standard license plates off of their cars and keep them instead of leaving them on the car.

Barren County clerk Helena Birdwell discusses the positive impact this will have on the community.

Birdwell says, “This is a great thing because, folks, a lot of times they come in trades for their vehicle. They’ve already renewed for the year. So they’re losing months worth of a registration that they’ve already paid for and the new owner gets that. So I think folks across Kentucky are going to be happy with this change.”

This new program starting in January will allow drivers to re-issue the standard plate.
