Hot Rods open series in South Bend with 5-0 win over Cubs
The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned their fifth win in a row, beating the South Bend Cubs 6-0 this evening. RHP Tobias Myers turned in another stellar start, and the offense was led by SS Zach Rutherford, who collected two hits on the night.
The Hot Rods got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. DH Devin Davis reached on a fielder’s choice, and moved to second on a walk. He scored on a single from RF Eleardo Cabrera, and it was 1-0 Hot Rods.
The lead swelled in the third. The Hot Rods sent eight batters to the plate and the heart of the order- Rutherford, LF Carl Chester, C Ronaldo Hernandez, and Davis- went RBI double, RBI single, single, RBI double, to help make it 5-0 Hot Rods.
Rutherford capped the scoring with his second RBI double of the night in the fourth inning, scoring 2B Vidal Brujan, and it was 6-0 Bowling Green.
Myers made the lead stick. He allowed just four hits and two walks in a career high seven innings. He earned the win, improving to 9-4 on the season.
The Hot Rods conclude their nine game road trip tomorrow evening. RHP Austin Franklin (5-3, 3.39) will get the start for Bowling Green tomorrow as they look for their ninth sweep of the season, and their sixth win in a row. The Cubs will counter with LHP Ricky Tyler Thomas (3-5, 2.47). First pitch from South Bend is set for 7:35pm Eastern time.
