Hot Rods sweep Whitecaps in West Michigan
The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned their first four game sweep of the season with a 5-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps this afternoon. LHP Resly Linares earned the win, and LF Emilio Gustave scored twice.
The Hot Rods got started in the second inning, when 1B Devin Davis launched his fifth home run of the season on a fly ball to left field. It was 1-0 Bowling Green after two innings.
In the third, RF Emilio Gustave scored on a sac fly from SS Taylor Walls, making it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Whitecaps got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when 1B Rey Rivera homered deep to right field, and it was 2-1.
Bowling Green responded in the fifth. They collected four base hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs to take a 5-1 lead. 2B Vidal Brujan, SS Taylor Walls, and 3B Zach Rutherford each had RBIs in the inning.
LHP Resly Linares (2-2, 4.09) earned his second win of the season, throwing six innings. He allowed four hits and two runs, walking two and striking out a career high 10 batters.
West Michigan added runs in the sixth and eighth, but RHP Jhonleider Salinas worked the ninth inning for his third save of the season.
The Hot Rods will now head to South Bend for two quick games before coming home on the fourth and fifth of July. First pitch tomorrow is set for 7:35pm Eastern Time from Four Winds Field.
