Warren East alum honored with jersey retirement
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Former Warren East softball star Katie Gardner was honored in between the girl/boy doubleheader between the Raiders and Greenwood Gators.
Gardner was named the 2019 Kentucky Miss Softball and 2018 & 2019 Region 4 Athletic Director’s Player of the Year. In addition, she was a four-time All-State honoree and three-time Region 4 MVP.
Gardner played varsity ball from seventh grade to senior year finishing with 110 wins and 1,239 strikeouts throughout her decorated career.
Friends and family can now see her name in the rafters at Warren East High School.
“It’s very exciting and I’m glad that it was so early,” Gardner said. “Usually, you have to wait a little bit to get your jersey retired but when my mom told me about it, I was very surprised but very excited all at the same time. I grew up playing softball at the high school when I was in seventh grade, ended up getting Miss Kentucky Softball my senior year of high school. So, lots of great accomplishments, and of course, couldn’t do it without my team.”
