Barren County Man sentenced for illegal possession of firearm

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Barren County man is facing four years and nine months in federal prison in relation to firearm possession charges.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky, 37-year-old Dwayne T. Smith of Glasgow, Kentucky was sentenced last week for the illegal possession of a firearm after previously being convicted of a felony.

Officials say Smith was previously convicted for the same felony twice in 2019, along with charges of receiving stolen property and possession of synthetic drugs–second or subsequent in one of these convictions.

In total, Smith faces over nine months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the ATF with assistance from the Kentucky State Police and the Glasgow Police Department.
