Mother loses two sons to homicide, police investigate death of Jotez Beason
For the second time in two years, Elisa Beason has received the knock at the door no mother ever wants to hear. Her first-born son, Jotez Beason, 34, was found dead this morning.
Jotez’s death comes just one year and eight months after a violent beating took the life of Elisa’s other son. His homicide remains unsolved.
Elisa Beason knew from the familiar knock at the door this morning that her life was about to change, again.
“Out of all my kids, I only got we kid left, and we don’t know what to do, we don’t know where to go, we don’t know nothing,” Elisa said as she stood near the home, now blocked off with crime scene tape.
Bowling Green police say they were called to 1328 Stubbins Street around 6:40 a.m. after Jotez was found deceased.
“I got a phone call that my son had been shot,” Jotez’s father Gordon Burnam said, recalling the tragic phone call he got while on a run this morning.
An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday in Louisville. Police have not released the cause of the death pending the autopsy report.
Elisa says they just don’t know how to process the news.
“Right now, I don’t know if I got two left feet. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where to go. It’s like all my family members is leaving,”
They never imagined their last talk with their son would be the last time they’d ever hear his voice again.
“People have bad things that they do in life, but my son had a genuine heart,” Burman said.
“He was a good person, especially with kids,” his mom said. “He gave, he bought for the neighborhoods. He was just a lovely person.”
In January of 2017, Elisa’s other son, Xzavion Beason, 30, was violently beaten outside of Chocolate City nightclub.
He died at The Medical Center within days of the beating.
That homicide remains unsolved.
“This my second son. They both got murdered and if anyone has any information on either one of them, please come forward because this has been going on for too long,” Elisa said, pleading to the public for answers.
“It’s a senseless act that happened here. It’s rough, it’s rough,” Jotez’s dad said. “This stuff is senseless. It doesn’t make any sense for young people to be leaving this world like they’re leaving today.”
