BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -With above average temperatures and heat indexes possibly exceeding 100° this week, it’s important to know the signs of heat exhaustion vs heat stroke. According to data from the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading deadliest weather related hazards. Let’s break down what to look for:

Heat Safety1

Heat Exhaustion is a common heat illness. This may include excessive sweating, feeling nauseous, or even faint or dizziness. If you see someone experiencing these symptoms, take them to a well air-conditioned room.

Heat Stroke is the most serious heat related illness and will need immediate medical help. If left untreated, this could lead to death. Signs of heat stroke include; no sweating, which means your body is no longer working to cool itself off, and an internal body temperature exceeding 103°F.

Some helpful tips to stay safe during the heat wave include staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks in the a/c, and wearing loose light-colored clothes. If you have any pets, please don’t leave them outside and remember to look before you lock!
